GCSE Dance

GCSE Dance focuses on the aesthetic and artistic qualities of dance and the use of dance movement as a medium of expression and communication in the performance, creation and appreciation of dance.

GCSE Dance enables students to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of creating and interpreting images, ideas and concepts embodied in dance development. The Dance GCSE course is based on the AQA Syllabus and consists of three strands:
  • Composing
  • Exploring, improvising, selecting, shaping and refining movement to create dance, using knowledge of choreographic forms.
  • Performing
  • Developing your own personal performance skills to become technically competent and to explore interpretation and expression.
  • Appreciating
  • A study of the meaning and significance of dances, both professional and your own, through description, interpretation and evaluation.
