On 1st September 2003, Sandy Upper School
was designated as a Specialist Sports School.
The purpose of this is to raise achievement across the whole school.
Research has shown that all types of Specialist Schools add value
to a student's education in all subjects and they achieve at higher
levels than non-specialist schools.
Being a Specialist School also brings resources to benefit every
subject area and we will continue to offer and extend our present
academic curriculum. We chose sport because this will benefit the
wider community more than most of the other subjects we might have
selected - there is no question of a student needing to be good
at sport to join Sandy Upper School but we will be working on healthy
lifestyles.
