In September 2011 a group of Sixth Form students set up a Young Enterprise company. As a team we decided upon the name SUStainable to enforce our environmental policy and to link us with S.U.S. We agreed upon making and selling basic English-French and English-Spanish bilingual Adventure Books for children and personalised Key Rings that we could produce to a high quality by utilising the School’s laser cutter. Both products endorse our eco-friendly mission statement because our books are made from FSC paper or can be downloaded as an online copy and our key rings are made from waste acrylic from the DT Department.
We recently participated in the Area Finals competition, which was held at the Rufus Centre at Flitwick, where we had to submit our Company Report and give a presentation explaining our products and Business Plan. We also had to demonstrate what we had accomplished during our time working as an enterprise team, with particular regard to team organization and submit a 10 page report detailing our progress over the last year. Our school was extremely successful, being the only school to win 2 awards – they were for Best Company Report and Most Innovative Company.
If you are interested in purchasing a personalised key ring, please ask a company member or Mrs Kelly for details. The price of the key ring is only £1 for one or £2.50 for three. The books which are targeted at ages 4-8 can either be obtained from school or online through Amazon.
