Admissions
ADMISSIONS POLICY
If the number of places in a year group at the school is not sufficient to meet the requests of all the parents, then the following County criteria will be applied (in the rank order shown) to determine how the places will be allocated:
- To children ‘looked after’ in the care of Central Bedfordshire Council or resident within the catchment area;
- To students living in the catchment area;
- To other children ‘looked after’;
- On ‘very exceptional’ medical grounds;
- To siblings of students currently attending the school;
- To any other children
The admission number for each year group is 269.
Admission to Sandy Upper School Sixth Form
The principles of admission also apply to sixth form students. In addition note the following:
- There is an open entry policy to the sixth form but to study A level courses there is generally a minimum requirement of 5 GCSE or equivalent passes at grade C and above. Please note there are some subject areas where a B is preferred as a minimum requirement.
- There is a suitable combination of courses available for the individual and that numbers on the course are sufficient to enable it to run.
- Oversubscription to the sixth form, as a result of request for admissions from students attending other schools, will result in the final offers of places being determined in accordance with the admissions criteria above.
- Where possible parental preference will be met but should any student be refused a place in Year 12 there is an entitlement to appeal to an independent panel.
