Sports Specialist Status
Sandy Upper School has been designated a Sports College since 2003.
The specialist status has allowed us to invest in the quality of our students learning through improved facilities, enhanced ICT provision, leadership and enrichment activities as well as specialised teaching staff.
This has enabled us to expand our curriculum and broaden our extra curricular programme to increase all our students’ opportunities both in sporting activities and in other areas of the curriculum.
The main outcomes of being a Specialist Sports College are:
To raise standards in Physical Education
To raise standards in Science (our targeted subject)
To raise whole School standards
To raise standards in PE in our partner schools
To learn through sport in the community
The Sports College Vision
We aim to use sport, and the values it represents; determination, commitment, leadership perseverance and teamwork to provide a learning experience that is tailor-made for our students.
We deliver imaginative well resourced lessons across our curriculum that fully engage all our students and enable them to achieve highly, often to a greater level then they expected.
Our partnership of 23 Lower, 5 Middle 2 Special and 2 Upper Schools forms the East Bedfordshire School Sports Partnership with the aim to disseminate the outstanding practice and offer support and opportunities for all our students and pupils in our family of schools.
Our community links with a wide variety of sporting clubs and organisations. We have a community coach who works with our clubs and feeder schools to promote and encourage our students to take up sport outside of School.
Stevenage Leisure, who manage our sporting facilities, enables our students to have access to a large number of sporting opportunities based on the school site, whilst a large number of our sports clubs use the School site.
Our vision is to empower our students with the skills, the desire and the ability to use and enjoy sport in order for them to exceed expectations.
