Year 11 Football
The year 11 team make the district final.
Congratulations to the year 11 football who have reached the final of the district competition. The team won the league and did not drop a point. This enabled them to qualify for the semi final of the competition. The team played Sharnbrook in the semi final. The score was 2-1.
The team arrived at Sharnbrook up for the game. There was a sense of belief in the air. We had heard that Sharnbrook were a good footballing team. Having taught some of the Sharnbrook students, I was aware of their quality and technique.
We started the game well, passing the ball around ensuring all players had the confidence to receive the ball. Astrike from Josh Walton Smith was well blocked by the Sharnbrook defender. George Melrose was a constant threat. The Sharnbrook defence could not cope with his pace and movement. The half ended 0-0.
The second half started as the first half finished. Alex Ingham was getting on the ball and passing it easy. He was also getting tight to the opposition, not allowing them to dribble or pick passes. A long ball from the Sharnbrook left back beat our defence. The wide midfielder passed the ball under Ricky Gears body. 1-0 to Sharnbrook.
We responded well. George Melrose ran with the ball down the left hand side. He beat two players and cut inside. Josh Walton Smith was close behind. George was able to strike the ball in the corner of the goal. 1-1.
The game was tightly poised. It could have gone either way. Josh Walton Smith ran with the ball down the right hand side. He cut the ball back to Michael Rushden who brilliantly dummied the ball for Tom Long who smashed the ball into the top corner of the goal. 2-1.
We defended superbly. The defence held the line well and soaked up the pressure. Gearsy was so determined to win, he headed an opposition player instead of the ball!
It was a marvellous win for the team. It was a win they deserved as they have worked hard throughout their three years of being at the school. The training in year 9 and 10 seems to have paid off! Good luck to the team in the final.
Year 11 Football Team through to Round 4 of ESFA National Cup
A great performance by the year 11 football team saw them progress through to the next round of the National Cup. It was the lads' best performance of the season. It is great to see the team grind out a result and work so hard for one another. Stantonbury - MK looked comfortable on the ball and passed the ball with confidence. We also bopped the ball around with confidence. We took the lead through George Melrose. He worked hard to win the ball, decided to stay on his feet and outwitted the goalkeeper. The visitors equalised straight away. George popped his second goal in with 15min remaining. A superb finish in the corner. We weathered the storm and deservedly won the game 2-1. Roll on Round 4! Joe Reynolds was man of the match although the whole team were brilliant.
Year 11 Football
The team played very well to beat Stratton 2-1 recently. Josh Walton Smith scored our two goals but it could have easily been more. The back four were tight and the new formation suited the way we play. We now play Impington in the next round of the National Cup.
