Year 10 Rugby - Match Summary
The Year 10 rugby team recorded a resounding 22-0 victory over close rivals Stratton Upper School on 17th November. Tries from Will Brown, Daniel Harland, Ieuan Evans and Benn Jefferies made for a comfortable win for Sandy in a game where Stratton never looked like scoring.
The team took to the Sandy pitch for the first time this season and were clearly buoyed by the vociferous support they received from the large crowd that had gathered for the local derby.
Congratulations must go to all the team with big performances from regulars such as Ciaran Jaras, Connor O’Neill and Gian Sumbillo helping new faces like Ricky Sewell, Billy Hampton and Jaco Wassermann to blend into the team with consummate ease. The Year 10’s have more games on the horizon and will be hoping for similar performances and the same vocal support in home matches.

Year 11 Rugby
A mix of Year 10 and 11 players took to the field for Sandy against a team of more experienced Year 11’s from St Thomas More. Strong running from Rorie Champion, Dan Harland, Liam Dunne and Alex Reynolds as well as some sturdy defence from the whole team gave Sandy a chance, but the odds were always stacked against them. The chance of a Sandy victory seemed even slimmer when Scott Dale-Molloy took a knock and had to leave the field with just twenty minutes gone.
With Scott off the field, Sandy had no back-line of defence and St Thomas More took full advantage, running in some long distance tries and the game was slipping away from us. However, a late rally, led by two Liam Dunne tries, gave Sandy a chance, but it was to prove too little too late, with the game ending 47-22 in favour of the hosts.
